Paragraph 1
The purpose of this article was to discuss the impact of the ongoing pandemic the world is facing
known as COVID-19 in care homes. Coronavirus which is often referred to as COVID-19 is an
infectious virus that attacks a person’s respiratory system. The first cases of the virus occurred
late 2019 and has been progressing ever since. With the disease spreading so rapidly, the
healthcare system had no idea on how to control it or where it originated from.
Paragraph 2
To help stop the spread of the disease, the staff of these care homes had to act fast. They came up
with the decision to place their residents in isolation. Residents were encouraged to stay in their
rooms while the staff of the homes would bring care to their rooms. Problems arise with the
residents who were diagnosed with dementia because they often forgot they were supposed to
stay confined to their rooms. PPE was very limited and care homes were not looked at as a
priority to receive it. Families of the residents were not allowed visits which caused many
people to be upset about not seeing their loved ones at such a devastating time. Overall
COVID-19 severely affected care homes all over and it will take time for these homes to recover.
