Zoology Questions
Question Description
I’m working on a biology question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Question 1
1.Explain how carbon dating is used to determine how much time has passed since a specimen
from an animal or plant was alive. What makes C-14? How does it get into plants? How does it
get into animals? How long after death can a living thing’s time of death be measured using CD?
Include why living things are all a tiny bit radioactive, where that radioactivity comes from, what
types of samples can be dated using carbon dating, how old a sample has to get before it is totally
non-radioactive and can’t be dated using this method. NO MORE THAN 10 SENTENCES!
Question 2
List the steps taken when a cell manufactures a protein molecule AND draw a diagram of the cell
with parts labeled and the location of each step indicated.
a. Begin in the nucleus, where the DNA code for the protein is read, describe each step until the
constructed protein arrives at the cell membrane for excretion.
b. Include the job of DNA, RNA, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes, Golgi apparatus and Cell
Membrane.
Question 3
Describe each of evolution theory’s essential elements – Variability, Inheritability, (differential)
Survivability and how that leads to Adaptation. (VISA) Explain, in a few words, what each
element is and how they work together to create change in the traits of a species.
Question 4
Evidence supporting the Theory of Evolution includes the Ebb and Flow of species, Homologous
anatomical structures and Ontogeny Recapitulates Phylogeny. Explain what each of these pieces
of evidence is with no more than three sentences for each.
