Overview and Relevance of Project
The term project links what you have learned in the course to managing your career. The purpose
of the project is to allow you to take a complete view of an organization and link it to your desired
work environment. Essentially, you are being asked to find and analyze a company for which you
may wish to work. You are asked to use concepts you have learned from the course to come to
a conclusion as to whether or not this company would be a good fit for you. From a practical
standpoint, this project is very useful in helping you learn about companies where you would like
to work. èat do you know about us?)s a very common question on job interviews.
Project Format and Source Material
The project is in a take-home format that requires thinking and analysis as well as effectively
communicating oneàideas. The assignment is due no later than midnight Sunday, November
6th, and constitutes 15% of your final grade. You may submit the project earlier than if you wish.
I highly recommend that you adhere to the suggested schedule that is detailed below. You should
submit the project through the assignment link on the Canvas site; turnitin.com will automatically
scan your project.
The Assignment
Choose a company for which you would like to work and conduct an analysis of that company.
Your ultimate goal is to determine whether it is a good fit for you. You should focus on those
aspects of the company that will allow you to meet personal goals while making a difference at
work. You may adapt the assignment to an entrepreneurial activity you plan to pursue or to a
career in the not-for-profit sector.
Elements your project should include:
Part I n introduction that briefly describes the organization and the type of position you would
like to pursue. Include a description of the products and services it offers, its business model
(that is, how it makes or will make a profit or in the case of a not-for-profit organization, how it
generates operating revenue),and how global the companyàreach is.
1
Part II n analysis of how the environments discussed in chapters 1 through 5 relate to the
organization you have selected.

Technological environment
Competitive environment
Social and cultural environment
Global environment
Part III n analysis of the organizationàstructure and culture. Upload the organization chart
of the company you have selected and summarize the key aspects of the chart related to the
concepts covered in Chapter 8. Is there a hierarchy? Are there departments or divisions? Also,
briefly describe the organizationàculture. That is, is the organizational culture formal or
informal? What are the organizationàvalues? Is there a values statement?
Part IV ased on the information on and format of a SWOT analysis in Chapters 7 of your
textbook, prepare a SWOT analysis on yourself as well as the organization you have selected. You
should identify your strengths (that is the areas in which you think you excel) and weaknesses
(that is those areas in which you might not excel). Based on your strengths and weaknesses and
based on your analysis of your chosen company, what opportunities would align well with your
strengths? What challenges (threats) might you need to overcome?
When you have completed your SWOT chart, explain how someone with your strengths (i.e.,
skills and experience) would fit within this company. How would those weaknesses impact your
goals? Do you think the company will meet your expectations with respect to what motivates
you the most &or example: job content, organizational culture,, monetary rewards and benefits,
the ability to lead a balanced life, autonomy, etc.
Part V concise concluding paragraph that briefly summarizes your findings.

Grading Criteria
There is no specific length requirement for your paper; however, 5 to 7 pages should allow you
to adequately cover the five sections. I will not grade you based on length of the paper; rather,
I will grade you based on the following
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
Is the project complete; that is, have all the required parts been covered?
Has the organization been well researched?
Are course concepts evident in the work and are they used to gain insights into the chosen
company?
Is there integrative thinking or is the analysis choppy and disjointed?
Has the fit between the person and the chosen company been explained well?
Is it clear why this particular company was chosen?
Is the information about the company accurate? Has it been woven together using
concepts from the course to provide a well thought out analysis?
Status Suggestions
I am not going to check your progress on the project throughout the semester nor will I require
(or check) that you adhere to this suggested schedule. However, this is a semester project, and
it is best to complete the five parts as you finish the associated modules. You very likely will not
do an adequate job nor will you be able to adequately complete the project if you wait until the
last minute to get started. I strongly recommend that you use the following as a guide to make
sure you are making adequate progress. I use the turnitin.com site to ensure that your work is
original; therefore, please be sure to use quotations and attribute your source so that
turnitin.com does not mistake it for plagiarism.
