writing 2000 word blog
Description
Weighting: 35% 2000 words Due Tuesday 11 April, 2023, 11.59pm (mid-semester break week)
Simple extensions are handled by the University’s Special Consideration and arrangement team. You will need to apply through the portal hereLinks to an external site.. They require a student declaration and are generally processed within 24 hours of submission. Simple extensions are 5 calendar days.
Special Consideration applications may take two working days to be dealt with, and require additional documentation. Apply using the portal linked above.
Your 2000-word blog post will be based on the areas covered in Weeks 4-6 of the unit (Issues of Concern) and will provide in-depth critical analysis and insight into the topic, including a current case study relevant to the topic. NB: The word count does not include the reference list.
Possible topics could include anything related to: privacy & digital rights (week 4); AI, automation, algorithms & datafication (week 5); hate speech and online harms (week 6). Check with your tutor for feedback on your topic & how to refine it.
For the tone and writing style, imagine you are writing for a non-academic audience &or example, write like you were explaining your topic to a friend or family member who is not familiar with key issues on Internet Cultures or Governance, but is otherwise generally well informed. Rather than summarise the required readings, your piece has to present a thesis that synthesises the unit materials, with a clear takeaway for the reader (general public).
Whilst your blog post will be written in an informal/conversational tone, it still needs to be well researched (use evidence and scholarly works) and well written, including appropriate citations and a complete reference list at the end, formatted in APA 7. Please refer to the MECO Style Guide Download MECO Style Guide for guidance on how to properly format your assignment.
