Week 7 Discussion 2: Analyzing Leadership Styles
Description
This week we are examining leadership styles. Pick a public figure that is a leader and that you can research on the Internet. Tell us about this person and their leadership style. Do you think their leadership style is effective? Why or why not? When presenting your information to the class, be sure to base your decisions on the research conducted versus your personal thoughts and views. Support your decision with credible information. Your responses should be specific and make clear connections to this week’s course materials.
Respond to the posts of at least two peers. Your responses to other students’ posts should be comprehensive and provide a substantive contribution to our discussion. If you could also do this as soon as possible that would be great! Thanks.

Week 7 Discussion 2
A public figure that demonstrates great leadership is Michelle Obama. Wife of former U.S. president Barack Obama, Michelle Obama made her mark as the first African American First Lady. Beyond this title, Michelle is known for being a lawyer, author, and mother of two. From her time in office and now beyond Michelle has been an active community activist and social rights advocate. Her leadership style can be described as a very informational and initiating structure. For she has been able to reach all across the country with her speeches, television appearances, and writings. From there she was able to bring her visions to life by implementing programs such as the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act which was a step in transforming the food pyramid recommendation (The WHITE HOUSE). What makes her leadership style so effective is that she is not one to just discuss change but actually make it happen. She is more than just a promoter and face her claims but she follows through as well.

Week 7 Discussion 2
The public figure or leader that I chose was Martin Luther King Jr. MLK was an activist and one of the most prominent leaders during the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. MLKàleadership style was transformational leadership which is a leadership approach that emphasizes change in individuals and social systems. He followed this because he used this leadership style to fight for equality and civil rights for all Americans which he displayed through his vision, messages of peace, and speeches. I believe his leadership style was effective because even to this day, he is still known as one of the building blocks towards equality in the US. He helped bring about the concepts of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and both of these bills helped African Americans across the country. His nonviolence resistance or transformational method also earned him a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. MLK was a tremendous leader who understood the position he was in his country at the time and he was innovative enough to brainstorm an effective way to protest peacefully so that there weren much, if any lawful consequences and his hard work and positive beliefs still live on to this day.
