Description
The Conceptual-Theoretical-Empirical Model (CTE) is a framework that can be used to help explain a research study and the design. By using this type of framework, readers will better understand why the research study should be done, what occurrences lead to the research idea and what elements will help you address the issue. To better break it down, a conceptual framework is like a road-map or blueprint of the research study. The theoretical framework presents and defines a theory that will be used during the research to help support the study. The empirical aspect is based off of data collected by observations or experiments (Jaakkola, 2020).
The theory I developed during week two was based off of children and adolescents being seen in the emergency department during a mental health crisis. These kids are often spending several days in the ED, which delays starting treatment because there are not enough resources for them in the ED. They need intervention sooner than what is currently provided, so they can start receiving the treatment needed to help them overcome their current situation. Delays in receiving the proper treatment is a delay of care. My original theory statement, (e emergency department serves as a critical place to intervene (Concept A) ensuring continuity of care (Proposition), and ultimately help these children and adolescents experiencing a mental health crisis (Concept B). t the time, I wasn exactly sure how to write a theory statement and I was made aware that it was /o wordy With the help of Professor Deras and a suggestion from a classmate, I¥ eliminated the extra words. The improved version reads: Emergency department services (Concept A) intervenes (Proposition) to ensure continuity of care (Concept B).
For a research study using this theory statement, I would need to develop the Conceptual framework or ¬ueprint list the existing problems and what would need to change in order for a successful outcome to occur. The Theoreticalframework used comes from one of WatsonàCaritas Processes, number four, Nurture. According to Wei, Hardin & Watson (2021), µrturing interpersonal and inter-subjective relationships create caring moments. These caring moments help create a trusting relationship that helps the patient cope with stressful situations. y creating these caring moments with an individual suffering from a mental health crisis, providing support, and ensuring they receive the help they need now and not hours to days from now, they will feel like their needs are being met and will show less frustration and anxiety. When they see that others want to help them, they may be more compliant and open to their plan of care. The Empirical framework would include existing data from patients that were seen, discharged, and referred to outpatient therapy and those that were transferred to a psychiatric facility for treatment. Many other aspects should be included, such as when medication was started, therapy sessions, etc. My hope is that the evidence would prove beneficial and that administrators will approve initiating therapy services to these children and adolescents while they¥ in the ED.
