POST 1

response 1: Determine the incident type and explain your reasoning. The critical incident I have decided to write about is a recent disease outbreak. This outbreak was a result of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It started and spread almost like no other, causing what seemed to be the shut down of the whole globe. The reason this became a pandemic was because of how easily the virus spread. (e virus can spread from an infected personàmouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe.(World Health Organization, 2023) What resources were deployed for this incident? This incident caused a grave uproar because of the way it was handled. Every country decided to handle it the way they deemed best. Within the United states one of the responses was a full blown lockdown. In order to facilitate this the government decided to send out stimulus checks. These checks were meant to aid in the payment of bills, groceries, and rents.                                                                                                                What protocols were implemented successfully, and which were unsuccessful? The protocols in place depended on the level of infection at the moment. What many countries agreed on was the use of face coverings and social distancing. This was deemed successful as infected numbers dropped. As these numbers dropped the protocols began to loosen their restrictions. Upon the relaxation of protocols Covid-19 diagnosis spiked. Discuss ways to improve the response to this type of incident in the future.I believe that one way to improve on the response of such an incident is to speed up the response time. The name Covid-19 is derived from the fact that infections began in 2019. However it was not till mid 2020 when countries began to take action. It took this outbreak becoming classified as a pandemic for it to be taken seriously. Many lives were lost and this cannot happen again. We must learn from our previous mistakes and ensure a plan is drawn up for any possible critical instances that we may face. POST 2

response 2: For this weeks discussion I will be discussing about the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting. On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman opens fire on a crowd attending the final night of a country music festival in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring more than 800. Although the shooting only lasted 10 minutes, the death and injury tolls made this massacre the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history at the time of the attack. Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old retired man who lived in Mesquite, Nevada, targeted the crowd of concert-goers on the Las Vegas strip from the 32 floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. Paddock began firing at the crowd at 10:05 p.m. using an arsenal of 23 guns, 12 of which were upgraded with bump stocks, a tool used to fire semi-automatic guns in rapid succession. Within the 10-minute period, he was able to fire more than 1,100 rounds of ammunition (History, 2018).  The cooperation between 4 local fire departments, 9 law enforcement agencies, and 3 local private ambulance companies at the scene was exceptional. These responses brought hundreds of personnel to help. Off-duty public safety personnel also assisted in the response, providing valuable surge support for local responders. The Las Vegas community as a whole came together in response to this unprecedented situation to assist the survivors and responders of the shooting (Federal Emergency Management Agency., 2018). According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Fire Alarm Office and fire department line personnel were not aware that the festival was occurring. Although the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were aware of the festival, dispatchers and first responders should be made aware of large or high-profile events occurring in their jurisdiction to enhance their agencyàreadiness posture for a potential incident.
