130Justin: This weeks discussion highlights the importance of Mission and Vision Statements within the corporate world, what they accomplish for the company and how they differ from each other. It seems as if 98% of companies in the world create a mission statement when creating their company; this may seem like their one mission it is not the only one that defines their business (Farfan, 2019). I believe that the hardest thing a company can do is create a mission or vision statement that they are not passionate about. It is apparent that pretty much every company in the world has done this but passion is, in my opinion, what sets up the company to either succeed or fail in those statements. Throughout my research I noticed that a lot of words or phrases are repeated in companies of all facets. Whether it was Anthropologie talking about having “Passionate Employees” and making “Customer Connections” or Costco saying that “Profits Revolve Around Ethics,” It all seemed to have a similar notion that treating your customers right leads to prolonged success. I too value these in my everyday work efforts. I am 100% about the customer and in doing so it allows me to create profit for my company. Vision Statements are just as important as a mission statement because the speak about the future success of the company and where they want to be. Disney’s Vision statement is simple but it has already proven to bring them success. Their vision statement is just this, “To make people happy.” (Brex, n.d.). I would be hard pressed to find another company with as much passion as Disney has for their company. To me this is the best example of how to be successful in everything you do in your career. There are many values and principles that form the underlying bedrock of my chosen field. For one, we are all about serving the people. There is a vast amount of individuals who can never find the clothes they like to wear in their size and we know that finding many items from casual all the way up to wedding attire in sizes bigger than 1XL can be an issue. We serve the niche community of Big and Tall with the intent to make them feel happy in the clothes they wear as well as provided them all kinds of options to choose from. I believe an amazing mission statement for my chosen field would be “To serve a community that’s been ignored by every other retailer.” I know Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, etc., maybe not have the sizes to fit everyone but we pride ourselves on being able to provide for those people.

130Deol: Mission and value statement in health administration are big terms that professionals come across. The mission statement explains how they try their level best to motivate individuals, give them the right care so they will have good comfort within their health. In health administration, teamwork is also one of the missions because in a healthcare sector if they want to make the right choices and provide the right care, they will need every employee to come together and work together, then only there will be success. An administrates-ain priority is to give a qualified and maintain confidentiality as well, because that also means that the residents and the family members trust in on them, and if something slips out, it will be a disadvantage not only for the person but the company as well. So, for an effective leadership health admistrators should make sure they are following and acknowledging the right statements and know that residents are the priority in a setting like these. HMA known as Health management Associates. It is one of the largest organizations in which they provide independent consulting and explorations for the people. Reading through their articles and page they have stated that they give importance to improving the health and wellbeing of their people and their communities and provide them with equal healthcare services.
A provides leadership, experience and technical expertise to government agencies, public and private providers, health systems, health plans, institutional investors, foundations and associations (digitaldiary podcast, 2019) Values also are a part of this sector and some of them are development, leadership, quality of care and integrity. These are the ones that were eye catching for me because they are important in a field like this. Leadership consists of being responsible and being a good role model for the employees. They need to make sure they are observant so that things will be running good in the setting, they need to be responsible and on time with everything even if it to meetings, to work or for appointments. Development is to make sure a healthcare administrative is giving the right training and knowledge to the staffs, so they don lack back on the things they already know and don know. Coming to integrity, it mainly to do with making decisions, especially right ones. Itàimportant for a leader in every field to make the right decisions for the people they are taking care of and even yourself. If one thing goes wrong, it could impact a lot more than we think. Lastly, Being fair in a judgement. It is important to be fair in any situation that occurs, each side must be investigated and heard the right way to be judged. For example, if two people came up to you with a difficult situation but one of them is an employee that you know well. That does not mean that their side will be right, it might be right so both point of views is to be investigated and judged in a fair manner.

o https://babylonbee.com/news/colin-kaepernick-sues-…

What is the name of the organization that published this headline? Did you know anything about this source before this assignment?

o Babylonbee is the organization that published the headline. Honestly I knew nothing about this publisher prior to this assignment.

What can you learn about this organization by reading laterally using Wikipedia?

o According to Wikipedia, Babylonbee is a conservative, Christian satire website that publish satire news articles (The Babylon Bee, n.d.).

What references are included in the Wikipedia article? Provide examples.

o References are mostly from other news articles such as The Daily Signal, The Washington Post, and The New Yorker.

How trustworthy are these references? How do you know?

o While all are news sources, and are not incredibly reliable, the Washington post is the most unbias news publisher. The Daily Signal is mostly conservative with its content showing bias.

Based on what you learned while reading laterally, do you trust this story? Explain why or why not.

o After reading laterally, I do not trust the story. It is a satire publisher who does not post reliable content.

How did your impression of this article change when you conducted more research on it? Have you encountered similar articles on social media or when scrolling through an aggregated newsfeed?

o I assumed the article was already false, as it seemed wildly inappropriate in the first place. I have encountered similar articles on social media when scrolling, and honestly some appear so realistic. The article usually seems trustworthy with a story that could easily be believable to someone who is reading vertically.

Why is it important to investigate a source by reading laterally?

o It is important to investigate a source laterally because you can never be too sure on who is actually telling the truth. Reading laterally helps you gain more resources to validate oneàcredibility.

.Wife Says Last Goodbyes After Self-Diagnosing Terminal Skin Cancer UPDATE: It Was A Sharpie | Babylon Be

What is the name of the organization that published this headline? Did you know anything about this source before this assignment?

The Babylon Bee. I have read some of the articles posted by The Babylon Bee before, and know it is a satire site.

What can you learn about this organization by reading laterally using Wikipedia?

According to Wikipedia, The Babylon Bee is a satirical conservative Christian news site, that has been called an evangelical version of The Onion (Wikipedia contributors, 2023).

What references are included in the Wikipedia article? Provide examples.

Most of the references included are from conservative mainstream news sites such as Fox News, however, these are balanced by articles from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The New Yorker to name a few (Wikipedia contributors, 2023).

How trustworthy are these references? How do you know?

Fox News is a right-wing ultra conservative site while The New York Times and The New Yorker are more left-leaning/liberal (Meylan, 2022). I think it is up to the reader to ensure they are consuming reports from variety of sources from across the political divide in order to obtain the full picture. Finding a more unbiased, centric source like the AP or BBC is important to reduce the media bias and sensationalism seen in other major publications (Price, 2022)

Based on what you learned while reading laterally, do you trust this story? Explain why or why not

No, I do not trust this story. Going into it, I knew the story was fake. This website is entirely satirical and the article I chose is so ridiculous that while I absolutely have heard patient’s report similar unfounded concerns, no credible news site would report on it.

How did your impression of this article change when you conducted more research on it? Have you encountered similar articles on social media or when scrolling through an aggregated newsfeed?

My impression of this article did not change at all. I have worked in the medical field for about 10 years and know that some patients do react as if they are dying with every headache, so seeing a woman planning her funeral off of a scribble on her arm doesn’t surprise me.  I laughed, but I’m not surprised by it.

Why is it important to investigate a source by reading laterally

In general, I try to not read the news as I find it depressing and bad for my mental health. When I do though, I try to find the story on a credible site such as the AP or BBC. Then I do more lateral reading to find the most unbiased and fact-based version of the story available. I feel it is up to the consumer to ensure they are reading multiple versions of a story before forming an opinion; however, we all know that is rare, especially in the last few years.
