Description
consider the following: William James, one of the earliest psychologists, famously said that the world of the newborn is %m>a big blooming, buzzing confusion(p. 160 of the text). Examine the reasons contemporary psychologists disagree with Jamesàcharacterization of young infants0erception of the environment in light of recent findings in perception, motor development, and learning/memory. Based on the research presented in Chapter 5, provide at least one example for each section (perception, motor development, learning/memory; i.e., at least 3 total). For each example, you will include (a) infant age and capability (research findings), (b) domain (perception, motor, or learning/memory), (c) how does this capacity contribute to bringing order to the young infantàworld, and (d) page number in text where this information is located.
For example: Newborns show preferential looking; similar to adults, they actively look at some visual stimuli over others. This helps bring order to their world because they have control over their visual environment and can limit exposure to some stimuli and increase exposure to others in accord with their preferences.
