University of Maryland Death Apocalypse Resurrection Discussion
Question Description
Your response to prompts 1-3 are your initial response, for which you are expected to write a total of 200-250 words.
Please do not include any of the prompt’s text (below) in your response:
- After reviewing this week’s resources, explore the meaning of myths about the end of times: deaths of gods, apocalypses, destruction/recreation, and resurrection. What stories on these topics, but from different cultures, seem the most similar to one another (feel free to draw from readings earlier in the term)? Which story seems to be the most unique, and why?
…………. - Think of a more contemporary tale–not necessarily modern, Arthurian romances would be appropriate–on the topic of the end times. Compare and contrast it to one of the ancient tales which we have read. What insights can be gained from this comparison/contrast of ancient and contemporary?….
….. - Ask one objective question (not one requiring a personal or speculative response) of your classmates focused upon the readings. You could ask a question about a particular god and death, about a particular mythic idea of the end of times, or about a source online that perhaps gives insight about a tradition that we did not study (or anything else that is relevant to the topic of our discussion).
