Refer to the essay prompt to guide your research process. Remember that this is an analytic and interpretative essay, and that research is only informing your ability to analyze and interpret the play as you have done for the previous literary projects.

The guides that follow will help clarify in greater detail the different steps of the research process.

The Research Process

While the following materials were developed by the San Francisco State University library website (where I used to work as a lecturer), they are generalizable to the college research process overall. As you watch the following videos to learn about the college research process, you might follow along using the Foothill College library website. Any time the librarian refers to ‘SFSU library’ in the video tutorial, you should imagine the same set of instructions as they relate to our college library’s website and your specific research situation. Most of the features will be similar, although they might appear in different locations on your screen. The research process remains consistent overall, though. It would be prudent to adapt these instructions to this project and to use them as an opportunity to begin the research process.

Overview

The third and final essay project will make use of both a new critical framework and academic/scholarly research to support and bolster your analytic ideas. The following prompt will outline the basic parameters for the final essay, and will be followed by lessons and activities that will introduce and trace out the research process and supportive materials to help you develop and organize ideas for the project. You’ll want to note that this essay project is substantially shorter than the previous two with a page requirement of only 2-3 (double-spaced) pages.
