University of California Irvine High Quality Civic Education Discussion Paper
Question Description
I’m working on a education & teaching writing question and need a sample draft to help me study.
Part 1 For each curricular response (3 total- two modules and a video), students should answer the following three questions (2-3 pages double spaced for each module and for the video):
1What does the curricular idea involve? Please describe what would happen if you implemented the set of lessons in the module or lessons associated with the video.
2.Explain what capacities and/or commitments to democratic engagement the approach might promote and the logic of why the experience might lead to this or those desired outcome(s). When writing this section please draw on the readings from the course. Draw on at least three readings per curricular assessment and be sure to clearly explain how the reading applies. Drawing on more than three readings may strengthen the paper?
3.Include in this discussion whether you believe this approach is a powerful one and why. This answer may also draw on course readings. If appropriate you can also discuss ways you could imagine strengthening the approach.
4.It is important that your discussion be clear and well written – be sure to proofread your essays very carefully. Use the writing center, friends, any supports you think would be helpful.

Modules
Part 2 Having discussed these three curricular approaches (2 modules plus the curriculum implied by the video) I would then like you to reflect on main themes from the course as a whole. Specifically, in 2-3 double spaced pages, please answer the following question:
To what extent do you think that what teachers do in schools can strengthen the health of our democracy? In particular, what specific goals would you suggest they focus on and please share your ideas regarding how those goals might best be pursued (perhaps drawing from the curricular approaches that have been discussed in course readings or in videos or in the digital civics tool kit or elsewhere). Again, in crafting this answer, i would encourage you to draw on content from the course as appropriate.
