Ethical Analysis & Evaluation Instructions #3
Instructions:
Students will be provided an ethical case study that is applicable and related to the topic of justice and the
law and becoming an ethical professional. Students will conduct an analysis and evaluation that will
assess students critical and analytical thinking skills. Students must be able to successfully analyze and
breakdown the ethical scenario, using the tools and evaluation process provided to students.
Student will utilize the six steps in analyzing and solving an ethical dilemma. Given the hypothetical
(video) provided, students will break down the hypothetical utilizing the six-step framework and will
provide an explanation for each step.
Your final product should be a minimum of 2 pages, and should not exceed 5 pages (doubled spaced,
12-point font, times new roman), please feel free to use the template provided.
Here is an example of what each step should look like:
1. The reality that is faced in the hypothetical provided is that the probation officer knew that the
secretary should not have been editing the police report that was open on the computer screen,
especially as this is identified the workplace policy. This is an ethical dilemma, due to the fact
that, the secretary disregarded the workplace policy; in addition, the editing of the police
report can constitute as tampering with official records, while leaving the report open on the
computer poses a privacy and confidentiality risk.
6-Step Framework:
1. Identify the reality that one is faced with an ethical dilemma; state it clearly.
2. Collect facts and circumstances triggering event or dilemma.
3. Investigate facts, knowledge relevant to the decision, including personal and workplace values
and ethical codes
4. Call to mind ethical theories and principles that apply.
5. Identify and list available options for action.
6. 6. Make a decision based on the analysis of the dilemma after applying an appropriate ethical
model to every course of action
Real Life Scenario (Hypothetical):
Video: PCSD Corrections Officer Tases Inmate
Was there an ethical dilemma present, focusing solely on fellow PCSD Correctional Officers?
Utilizing the 6-step framework, the video and factual information provided, you will have to break and
analyze each step while applying the facts of the case, your justification, reasoning, and rationale.
