• Film:Fantasy
• Asyou can tell above, I was assigned Fantasy, which is a sub-genre,that could be considered a mix of the main genres, Horror andScience-Fiction. Fantasy can also be combined with othersub-genres such as the Supernatural and Super-Heroes. Supernaturalis combined with other genres besides fantasy like comedy, sci-fi,or horror that contains subjects of gods/goddesses, ghosts, spirits,miracles, and other extraordinary experiences. Superheroes is one ofthe most popular categories of the fantasy genre. It can most oftenbe classified as fantasy-action or superhero movies based onoriginal comic-strips and characters. Fantasies can often bedescribed as taking the audience to otherworldly places withimaginative creatures that also contains elements of magic,folklore, wonder, escapism, and as said before the extraordinary.Fantasies can also classified as fairy tales, sword and sorcery;Heroic fantasies that follow the hero on a quest overcoming multipleobstacles; and fantasies that are multi-episodic when based onAncient Greek writings or contemporary works. Fantasy is also apartof other film categories such as Animation and Children/Family.Fantasy in a way is a combination of different genres and sub-genrestold through films with imaginative events, dreams, orhallucinations that are unlikely to occur in real life. Ittranscends the bounds of human possibility and physical laws. Forinstance, three films that fit this genre is Monster House, TheAvengers, and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Monster House can beclassified as a Horror/Fantasy about a house that is a livingcreature who wants to harm children. The movie contains elements ofsupernatural like the spirit of Constance coming to life through thehouse that Nebbercracker built, which is seen in the clip. TheAvengers is a part of the Fantasy genre since it falls under theSuperhero movies that are based on comic-book characters andcomic-strips. The Avengers would be considered a fantasy-action thatis shown through the clip where the Avengers assemble to fight offthe sci-fi robot dragon and other supernatural bad guys. Finally, inThe Sorcerer’s Apprentice can be classified as Fantasy/Adventure. Itis definitely the heroic fantasy and also contains elements offantasies such as mythical creatures (dragons) which is shown in theclip, magic, some type of wonder, and escapism. Fantasy isdefinitely not new to me. However, I have not watched the type offantasy films that my teacher is suggesting. For instance, I havewatched the superhero movies, heroic fantasies, the animation,children/family type movies but I have not watched the films thatare being suggested. I am skeptical of watching my chosen film sinceit is not the usual films that I watch but I am trying to keep anopen mind. One film that I want to watch in regards to the fantasygenre is Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
