The Research Process Discussion
Description
130Shatara: I started by searching the school library and trying out several different phrases before I was able to find articles beneficial to my assignment. Using the key words skills and competence I was able to locate quite a few articles containing the information that I was looking for. I also made sure to change my publication date to an updated year so that I only generated the most up to date information. Adding databases, limiting the search to Linked Full Text, and checking Peer Reviewed are a few strategies that I learned from watching the West Coast University – Conducting Academic Research: A Sample Academic Search video. I do find the school library a little hard to navigate when searching for specific topics, but I am happy with the articles that I have been able to find. I was able to find an article titled A skills network approach to physicians competence in shared decision making. This article is about the competencies of a medical professionals. It also outlines the obstacles physicians face in having to deliver shared decision making when in disagreements about which treatment option they feel is best. I do agree with the article and have seen several different specialist disagree on which treatment options they feel is best for their patient. I also agree with the skills and competencies that have been mentioned they do align with what a medical professional should represent.
130Justin: The research process leading up to this week’s paper has been a new but usual tool for me. I am not accustomed to researching different topics and finding articles/books online that I can utilize to source in my writings. Having not written a formal paper in almost 10 years now, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. What I found was that the WCU Library database as well as simple Google searches were the best way to find the information, I needed to support my opinions on the topic at hand.
I was able to find many sources on the topic of my paper. One of the best sources I found was an article written on resources.workable.com. This article speaks about the roles of an Assistant Manager and why they are important in every facet of the business world. It allowed me to see the type of qualities needed to be an Assistant Manager, as well as the skills needed to be successful in the craft to benefit your employees and your customers alike.
To be completely honest with you, I wholeheartedly agree with this article, and I do believe it fully supports the position of my essay. It speaks a lot about the qualities needed to be a successful assistant manager and it allowed me to see the things I may be able to improve on to make myself the best assistant manager I could be. I plan to reference this article not only in my paper but in my personal life as well. It is one of the most important roles in lower-level management because it not only can help bridge that gap that corporate and store levels have but it is also the first big stepping stone to making a positive change in your company.
101lineth: According to the article by Abrams (2021), misinformation spreads because fake news are created to mislead the readers and spread. Once fake news is read, people believe it and react to them. Even if a reader later finds out the truth and credibility of the fake news, they can hold on to their first impression of the news, and reject the reality of it. ¥search also reveals individual differences in susceptibility to misinformation(Abrams. 2021). People that do not use conscious reasoning, tend to believe fake news more frequently than people who use logic and analyze what they read. A few weeks ago, I came across a TikTok video on my for you page. It was a video stating that the Vatican was going to end the tradition of using godparents for baptisms. The tone of voice that the video used to announce the news along with the images, made me instantly believe that the video was credible. Even though it took me seconds to watch the video to accepted as credible. I later on shared the news with my mother-in-law, and a family member who recently had a baby. Days after, I wondered why I had not heard of it in the news or radio. I did some research after, turns out that they were fake news. I felt so ignorant after telling my family members of the fake news. We can all take the step of not judging and opinionating on news that we are not sure of the credibility of it. We need to learn how to not be ignorant and investigate the source and news before we move forward with that information. Parallel reading is part of being proactive and an opportunity to not fall for dishonest information.
101Idalmi: According to the article, disinformation may spread in several ways. Social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter promote disinformation. When people don’t properly consider the information, regardless of whether it aligns with their political beliefs, they are more likely to believe false information (Bago, B., et al., Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Vol. 149, No. 8, 2020). The article describes the six “degrees of manipulation.” Impersonation, conspiracy, emotion, polarization, discrediting, and trolling are used to promote false information. A fake news report may reference a phony expert, utilize emotive language, or offer a conspiracy idea to influence readers. Internet disinformation is like a moving target, researchers are finding. Internet-spreading fake tales often contain truths. The widespread availability of user-generated material in online social media makes it easier to group individuals together around shared interests, worldviews, and story lines. A piece of misinformation I encountered was an article called “Scientists Say Its Time To Give Artificial Intelligence 5man Rights”. To know if the article was misinformation evaluated the evidence and checked if they had any resources or links that backed up their claim. I also went to a fact checking website like Snopes.com which can help debunk the information and checks if the organization posting the article has posted other types of misinformation articles in the past. Knowing who benefits from promoting misinformation online is one step we can all take to prevent it. Before sharing a piece of information on social media that you are unsure of, slow down. Examining the post’s source and any evidence. While reading news, be wary of the source’s credibility. Instead of depending solely on your instincts, check articles from sources with minimal bias and high truth ratings to establish who and what you may trust. Bots are being used to manipulate information, disrupt social media communication, and attract users. We may prevent misinformation online by following procedures and continuously examining the evidence.
