your own in relation to those four texts. In other words, you will have a clear thesis statement
that represents where you stand in relation to other authors writing about the topic of college. In
your concluding section, you should give consideration to what we, as scholars, should take
away from this debate. What is the “So what? Who cares?” for your reader? As you read through
the texts for this section, you should observe what the authors have to say about college. Here are
some questions that the writers from this section might be posing: who should go to college, how
much it should cost, does its current structure disadvantage certain people, what is the purpose of
college education, in what ways could college be modified? The point of the paper is to
synthesize your reading in order to develop your own position. You might agree with some
writers and disagree with others. The point of the paper is to make your own claim and then
show how your claim relates to what has come before. In other words, what do they say, and
what do you say?
