The profession of nursing is often examined through the lens of its metaparadigm. A metaparadigm, the broadest theoretical perspective of a discipline, is a way to describe the concepts that are essential to the profession. In nursing, these four concepts are: person, environment, health, and nursing (Blais & Hayes, 2016, p. 101).

In this discussion you will select a theory with which you most closely identify. In addition to this theory, your nursing philosophy has been shaped by personal experiences, knowledge, values, and beliefs. Take a few moments to think about how your selected theory and own philosophy blend to guide your professional practice.
