Strayer University Strength and Weaknesses Paper

Description

What did you think about the course content we covered in this class? Did the assigned readings help you better conceptualize how research at this level needs to be carried out?

What courses are you planning on taking moving forward? How might you incorporate some of the lessons you used in this course moving forward?Consider the material that we covered this week and discuss when you think a mixed methods approach should be used in research. What are some key arguments that are occurring within the discipline regarding this question? Your posts this week should demonstrate critical reflection upon the assigned readings

. this nis what we learned in the class

Utilizing a mixed methods approach has both strength and weaknesses, however, the quantitative analysis and qualitative data are complementary. This method would be a great option for a study that intended to observe personal behaviors and responses towards the study variables in addition to surveys that statistical data could be derived from. One of the challenges with the mixed methods approach is that 2ocedures for both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis need to be conducted rigorously (e.g., adequate sampling, sources of information, data analysis steps)(Creswell, 2018, 217).

One of the arguments within this study is the complication of knowing when to stop the application of both methods towards answering a research question. f the qualitative data provides the researcher with the confidence to understand whatever it is he or she is studying and make generalizing statements about it, the researcher usually has enough confidence to know when his or her questions have been answered, to be certain that it is probably correct, and to stop. In quantitative research, the researcher may use an instrument or scale with the qualitative sample`purposeful, small sample. Using the sample is fine provided that the researcher has external norms or the physiological measures, or whatever, with which to interpret the scores(Morse, 2010).

Another prevalent argument is that mixed methods research cannot be conducted because of the research paradigms, that one paradigm must be employed, also referred as a 5rist3tance. On the other hand, some researchers take an a-paradigmatic approach where the paradigm is not considered nearly as important, especially in real world field studies. ¥cause these two stances are almost polar opposites, a schism exists among practitioners of MMR on the importance of paradigms (or conceptual stances, to use the language employed in this section) in terms of how research is practiced in real world settings. This schism exists between individuals who might be called methods oriented as opposed to those who are conceptually oriented(Teddlie and Tashakkori, 2010). Ultimately, the arguments surround the mixed methods approach seem to stem from uncertainty in how blending the two may or may not add to
