Jan Frances has just been hired as Director of Operations for Administrative Services for a small, rural, 20-bed hospital. The Central City hospital is in a close-knit community where everyone knows everyone, and things are done nformally. here are few formalized policies, processes, and documents in the Health Information Management Department (known as the Medical Record Department.) If someone wants their patient information, they just ask for it. Business relationships are informal, a handshake is as good as a formal contract. The Central City hospital is scheduled for a review by The Joint Commission in one year, and the Chief Executive Officer, Tom Holland wants to make sure that the hospital is prepared. You have been asked to serve as chairperson for the Health Information Management Committee. This committee will be responsible for developing policies and procedures to formalize how the process for how patients can access their health information, and appropriate healthcare professionals will be able to access patient information, communicate, and be protected.
