Planet Project: Due Saturday, March 11th
Design a travel brochure, poster, or video advertisement for a major
planet in our solar system (other than Earth) to convince space tourists
they should visit. If there is a different medium you would like to use
for your project I am open to other ideas, but please discuss it with me
in advance.
You can work on your own or in a small group (up to 3 people).
Information that must be included:
1) An image of the planet. You can create it yourself, or use an image
that you find online that is not copyrighted. (Most NASA images
are not copyrighted.) Be sure to cite the source if it is not your
own original artwork.
2) Distance from Sun in Astronomical Units
3) Radius of Planet in meters.
4) Density in units of kilograms per cubic meter.
5) Length of one solar day (I suggest reporting this in either Earth
hours or Earth days).
6) Length of one year (I suggest reporting this in either Earth days or
Earth years).
7) Number of known moons
8) Acceleration due to gravity in units of meters per second squared
(for example: Earthàgravity is 9.8 m/s2)
9) Does the planet have a magnetic field?
10) Does the planet have any special features that would help us to
recognize it in a photograph?
You can earn some bonus points by including additional information
such as:
Weather (temperature, wind speed, etc.)
Length of one sidereal day
Spacecraft or landers that have been sent to the planet
Who or what is the planet named for?
