Topic: NAICS 72 – COVID-19àImpact on the Restaurant Industry Economically
Up until the end of 2019, the restaurant industry generated wealth and employment.
The COVID-19 outbreak has not only been a disastrous public health crisis; it has also been the
greatest challenge ever to the restaurant industry. This sector experienced a severe economic
and employment crisis in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some restaurants will
never reopen after closing; never before have so many restaurants been forced to close.
In this analysis, we, describe COVID-19àimpact on the US restaurant industry to date and
explore how many were able to recovery and reopen. This was an industry that was not only
impacting the owners and the workers of the restaurants but also the consumers and
restaurant goers as well. Our group would like to know more about the effects of this
economically along with where we go from here.
What we have to do:
STEP 1: Look at the fundamentals.
1. Expand on the industry: hospitality, food/restaurant industry
2. What products does the restaurant industry produce?
3. How do they differentiate themselves from other industries? (may be helpful to rely on the NAICS and USA Census Data but NOT required as long as it is clear to the reader what industry and where (USA, different states or cities)
