Hello everyone,

The two lenses I choose to focus on my topic of Special Education and Learning Disabilities are social science and humanities lens. The social science lens helps me to learn about their behavior and how someone with a learning disability can work together with others. The social science lens and humanities lens both answered the majority of my questions. The social science lens will help to cover the social economic aspect of social science. The humanities lens will help me to understand how a person with a learning disability can express themselves and can be successful in learning through art. The two chosen lens have helped me to gain more knowledge about my main topic than I ever thought I would have.

Hello everyone, the topic I choose for project 2 is special education and learning disabilities. Then the two lenses I chose to gain my perspective from is Social Science and Humanities. I chose this project because I feel so many times people really don’t look into people with disabilities. Special education doesn’t get the proper funding and attention it needs even in our school systems and that is where social science came in. Society as a whole does not treat them with respect and treat them like they are as low as animals and they shouldn’t be doing it that way because instead of seeing them as a fellow human being that needs help they see them as burden. Questions I want to ask is why aren’t certain skills taught when people choose to work with those with learning disabilities? When hiring for jobs does a person learning disability play a factor in the longevity of a persons career? I have seen so many people with learning disabilities are often made fun of due to areas they lack in. I feel it should be policies in tact to protect those in the workplace and school settings. Often I have seen kids mistreated due to circumstances they had no control of. Which is where Humanity comes in most people don’t know that it is hereditary, or that it can be caused by brain trauma or even physical or mental abuse. It makes no sense how they are treated I recently seen it with a coworker if mine due to his dyslexia which is unacceptable. I chose this very topic because if more are educated then the more people will help and understand those who have certain learning disabilities.
