Read the LA Times op-ed and write a brief paragraph summarizing the author’s main points (notably, his argument and proposal for the future).

part II: Integrating Quotes.

Complete the following exercise using the same article

1. Use a signal verb or phrase to introduce an important quotation from the article.
2. Pick an important quotation from the article, and make it flow with your own sentence(s).
3. Pepper your own 1-3 sentences with words and phrases from the article

Part III: Engaging Critical Sources.

Complete the following exercise using the same article. This may be somewhat forced—i.e., you may not actually “disagree” with something from the text, but you can use any example to demonstrate you understand the exercise of engaging with another author. It’s the structure I’m interested in here!

1. Agree and build on one of the author’s observation’s or points.

2. Disagree, and use your disagreement to pivot to your own interpretation.

3. Agree, but… Use the article to add texture and nuance to your own argument
