SJCC Dayton International Hamvention & the Needs of Its Stakeholders Case Study
Question Description
I’m working on a hospitality discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Please read the following scenario about the Dayton International Hamvention, in Dayton, Ohio:
The Dayton International Hamvention is the most popular and the most prestigious amateur radio convention in the world. It combines trade show, retailing, flea markets, interest group meetings, licence examination sessions and other activities. It is held each May at the Hara Arena near Dayton, Ohio, and not-for-profit Dayton Radio Amateur Association (DRAA) is the main sponsor of the event. The event attracts more than 20,000 radio amateurs (also called hams) from all over the world who see it as an opportunity to buy and/or sell new or used equipment, to meet with fellow hams or to take the licence examination sessions. Numerous companies, among them leaders in the field of radio such as ACOM, Ameritron, ICOM, Kenwood, Orion, Palstar and Yaesu, offer electronic components, receivers, transceivers, amplifiers, antenna systems, specialized software programs and books for sale. The event combines a number of commercial, institutional and social activities. The DRAAs expenses for the organization of the event advertising, rent payments, printing materials and overheads are covered by two main income sources: entry tickets and re-renting space to commercial companies and organizations.
The multi-dimensional character of the event creates excellent opportunities for mutually supportive marketing activities. These activities are organized by different event stakeholders (for example, radio manufacturers, radio amateur groups and societies, retailers and charity groups). The objectives of the marketing activities of the stakeholders are quite diverse and the hams as well have several distinct reasons for attending the event. For instance, hams who sell used equipment at the flea market often buy new equipment. Some will come to the event to simply upgrade their old equipment, prompted by the renewal of their licences. At the event both groups will find buyers and sellers that satisfy these objectives. Other attendees will bring their families along for a fun day out. There are participating organizations at the event which provide opportunities for shopping in Dayton and visiting museums, exhibitions and theatres.
There are multiple levels of interaction amongst the organizers, radio manufacturers, amateur radio associations, retailers and attendees creating a dynamic and enjoyable atmosphere.
