Respond to the following discussion:
Rules and regulations designed to safeguard the human subjects of medical research must always be adhered to. Many moral issues, including respect for individual liberty and confidentiality, are raised using cutting-edge technology in biomedical research. Despite advances in technology, many problems persist, and researchers still struggle to address ethical concerns. (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; Health and Medicine Division; Board on Health Sciences Policy, 2020)
The adoption of AI-driven diagnosis raises several moral issues. The use of technology introduces new challenges in obtaining informed permission, which is an element related to data security but may go unnoticed if the right precautions aren’t taken. In the absence of explicit consent from the patient, hackers may gain access to their personal information and disclose it to third parties. Even with the advent of electronic health records, the difficulty of safe and secure data storage persists. Some of the data obtained during research is sensitive and can be directly related to the participants, and this sensitivity manifests itself at varying points throughout the study process. Misuse of personal information, false information, lack of oversight and acceptance of responsibility, lack of respect for participants, and unethical use of data and resources are some of the other ethical difficulties faced by biomedical researchers when using technology.(National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; Health and Medicine Division; Board on Health Sciences Policy, 2020)
The Belmont Report lays out three guiding ethical principles: compassion, fairness, and dignity for all. The principles offer suggestions for dealing with ethical issues that arise during clinical research. Individuals’ autonomy and the right to express their own viewpoints are essential tenets of the notion for respect of persons. Every participation should be voluntary and well-informed. The principle of beneficence requires that people be shielded from harm while still being helped as much as possible. Finally, justice as a principle calls for uniform treatment of all players. Hence, the principles are helpful because of the attention they bring to contemporary clinical ethics.(Vaisman et al., 2020)
