Implementation science aims to comprehend and enhance the systems and processes involved in putting evidence-based practices into effect in actual situations. Conversely, quality improvement in healthcare refers to ongoing attempts to improve healthcare services’ security, efficacy, and efficiency. Researchers and practitioners must adopt a systematic approach that includes problem or opportunity identification, selection of an evidence-based intervention, adaptation to the local context, and monitoring and evaluating the intervention’s implementation and results.
Recently, a corporation formed an Interdisciplinary Care Team (ICT), which raised the standard of healthcare. This ICT was developed to provide better care coordination and treatment for the group’s patients. The ICT comprises various healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and dieticians (Safaeinili et al., 2020). The impetus for this quality improvement was to understand that the organization’s strategy for treating patients lacked continuity and coherence. Each physician managed their practice, and the business had historically operated in silos. (Moullin, et al., 2020). As a result, there was a breakdown in provider coordination of care and a lack of shared accountability.
The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle, the Lean Six Sigma strategy, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) framework are just a few examples of models and frameworks that can help implement quality improvement efforts. Depending on the environment and the intervention, many obstacles may arise. Still, some common ones are resistance to change, a lack of resources or support, competing priorities, and organizational or cultural hurdles.
Initiatives for quality improvement can result in better patient outcomes, greater effectiveness, cost savings, and higher levels of patient and provider satisfaction. To ensure the sustainability of the changes, ongoing monitoring and evaluation are essential. Nevertheless, maintaining progress over time can be challenging (Safaeinili et al., 2020). Considering the context and stakeholders when planning a quality improvement project is crucial. You should also adopt a structured, evidence-based approach with ongoing monitoring and feedback.
The significance of stakeholder interaction and the necessity of continual monitoring and assessment are two critical lessons from this article that can be applied to future quality improvement efforts. Including stakeholders in the program’s design and implementation, including patients, providers, and administrators, can boost support and raise the likelihood of success. Monitoring and analyzing the process and results can yield information and insights to guide future development and sustainability.

For this weekàdiscussion, use the Saudi Digital Library to locate a scholarly journal article that details the use of implementation science to advance quality improvement in healthcare.
Summarize the article to include the healthcare setting, the quality initiative, the methodology, and outcomes.
Was there a framework used to guide the implementation?
Did the author(s) describe any barriers to implementation?
Was there improvement and if so, was the improvement sustained?
Discuss what additional or alternative quality improvement methods, implementation science approaches, and framework you would have used or recommended.
Describe two key takeaways from this article that you would incorporate into a similar quality improvement project in the future.
