POS 2041 Water Gate Scandal & Voting Questions

Question Description

**NOTE: You must do your own thinking and writing. You may use notes and textbook and other sources but you must cite quotations and paraphrases taken from other authors. I will use a plagiarism prevention technology to screen essays and if they are not your own work then you will receive zero points.

I expect one page of writing to one and one-half pages as the appropriate length for each question.

  1. Begin by explaining the history of voting rights in the U.S. How is the right to vote related to the concept of equality? Then discuss the main points of the “Lesterland” (Election Finance) video and identify issues that pose a threat to the future of representative democracy in the US.
  2. View the video from the Miami Dade College Book Fair that features New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, author of “In the Shadow of the Statues.” This video is linked into the Blackboard course in Unit 4. Discuss the main points of his lecture and relate to the key concepts of a good democracy as we have been defining that term throughout the semester. (Report any problems with video to me immediately).
  3. Explain how the Watergate Scandal is relevant to the current political situation in the US Federal Government. Be sure to define key elements of Watergate and explain what it tells us about US Federal Government. Relate those ideas to the investigation of the 2016 Presidential Election as well as the 2020 Impeachment of the current President. (NOTE: You will need to carefully review the facts of the 2016 election investigation and the separate issues of the 2020 impeachment, be sure to check the validity of your sources of information. Cite all sources.)
