Each enrolled student is expected to produce and submit an independent research paper at the end of this course. To this end, students shall, in consultation with me, select a country of their choice to conduct research that explains why the country is a developing country. The country must be within the developing region of the world 4he focus of this course. The research paper should be anchored on a set of questions and a theory/analytical framework that attempts to explain the problem or puzzle that interests you. Your essay should have a clear thesis statement and demonstrate good use of data and supporting sources. The research paper must be mechanically sound and contain a full bibliography that lists all sources used in the research, such as books/monographs, academic journal articles, newspaper articles, and web sources. (a) Choose a less developed country 3ee page 304 of the HDR 2021/2022; 

(b) Research background information on the country in The World Factbook available here: https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/ and the BBC Country Profile available here http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/country_profiles/default.stm; 

(c) based on the background information from (b) above, identify political, economic, and social development problems that are barriers to development in the country of your choice;

(d) construct a data table that includes 2 political indicators, 2 economic indicators, and 2 social indicators that are barriers to development in your country of choice. This means that your data table can include more data points that will strengthen your thesis statement. 

(e) conduct research and using available data, explain the causes of development barriers in your country. 

(f) based on the above information, why is your country classified as a developing country by the UNDP? Do you agree with the classification? 

(g) Conclude your paper by making policy recommendations (directed to the government of your country of choice) on how best to transition that country from a developing to a develop

This writing assignment is expected to be between 6-8 pages, double-spaced, 12 font. Your completed paper should have well-organized paragraphs, which convey ideas in a logical, coherent fashion, and must meet the guidelines specified below:

provide a thesis for investigation 

discuss and analyze carefully selected aspects of your chosen topic 

examine and critique contending perspectives and interpretations 

draw your conclusions, and 

discuss the broader significance and relevance of your analysis. 

To enable you competently complete this assignment, you will need to conduct library research on some of the topics that are covered in the assigned readings, e.g., the standard of living, income inequality, religion, culture, education, health, individual freedoms, human rights, and democracy, government regulations, and corruption as they apply to your country of choice. 

In your research and writing of the paper, be certain not to plagiarize. Plagiarism is (e act of appropriating the written, artistic, or musical composition of another, or portions thereof; or the ideas, language, or symbols of same and passing them off as the product of oneàmind.
