- Do not panic! There are several chapters to read; however, they are brief. Mason, Gardner, Hopkins Outlaw and OGrady provide succinct explanations and specific examples of health care policy in action. The beginning chapters discuss the philosophy of politics, the readings then continue with media influences, disparities, the importance of EBP, and more. I think this week will be informative and thought provoking. This week I do strongly suggest that you at least skim the supplemental readings

This link will take you to a web page with a link to an audio version of Senator Hubert Humphreys 1948 speech on Civil Rights. A transcript of the speech is also provided. In 1948 Hubert Humphrey presented a speech related to civil rights. It is unfortunate that today the battle related to civil rights continues in the area of health disparities and ethics. While youre listening to the speech consider areas that still exist today and how health care reform supports civil rights or takes away our civil rights.
