The topics cover different types of process control loops, its functions, operational modes, and instruments for measurement applicable to process industry.

3. Construct process control loops with the help of piping & instrumentation diagram.

Task 1: Technical Report

You are expected to conduct wide research through books, journals etc., understand the concepts and prepare a report the following tasks given.

1.1. Choose any industrial process and develop a control loop diagram for the process and explain

the following. (500 words)

(i) Discuss the process chosen for the study;

(ii) Develop the control loop diagram ;

(iii) Identify and explain the process variable, controlled variable and manipulated variable in the process.

1.2. Process Flow diagram of a binary distillation column is shown in Figure 1.2. Answer the following tasks given (500 words)

(i) Develop a complete Piping/Process & Instrumentation Diagram P&ID for the

given process;

(ii) Identify and explain the types of valves, equipment, sensors, transducers, transmitters, converters, controllers, and different types of signals in the

Piping & Instrumentation diagram drawn;

(iii) Discuss the significance of P&ID diagram and explain the advanced technologies (software) that are currently used by industrial sector.

1.3. Consider the different control loop configuration shown in Figure1.3 (500 words)

(i) Describe and discuss the type of control loop configuration used by Figure 1.3;

(ii) Discuss the concept of this type of control loop configuration and the applications of this type of configuration in industries.
