Experiment:
– For a period of 4 days, deprive yourselves of some senses
– Don endanger yourself
– Examples:
o Example: impaired vision 7ear glasses that impair your vision (buy a pair of
glasses with a very strong prescription; get the darkest sunglasses you can find)
wear them during the day and night only at home with friends and family ©mpair vision
o Example: impaired hearing 3oundproof headphones or earbuds (no music just
something to cover ear canal)
o Example: impair touch: use kitchen mittens or gloves when making a meal
– Play around with different senses and try 3 of the impairments
– Then write it up what was it like
– Contemplate how these impairments affected you and how older adult in your life
experience similar symptoms with age
– ****put emphasis on how this experiment has changed your perspective on older
adults specifically towards my grandpa who has difficulties with his sense of touch and
sight
– Do you have a recalibration for that adult?
– Experiencing decay in senses is something older adults go through and thatàthe point
of this assignment
– Approximate some of the sensory experiences of older adults
– The paper should be between 3-4 pages
