Simmons, R., Lilley, S., & Kuhnley, A.K. (Eds). (2020). Introduction to Counseling: Integration of Faith, Professional Identity, and Clinical Practice. Dubuque, IA: Kendall Hunt. ISBN: 9781524996970.

2. Topic: Mandatory Reporting

The initial thread must be 350–400 words and must contain at least 1 outside scholarly source cited in current APA format. For full credit, the scholarly source must be from a peer reviewed journal outside your Reading and Study material.

Question/Prompt: Child abuse and neglect is a common problem in the United States. As a future counselor, you will most likely encounter and be required to report abuse or neglect. To do so, you must understand the signs of abuse and neglect and your state laws regarding reporting. Follow the steps below to gather information so that you can complete this discussion board:

  1. Go to the following website entitled Child Welfare Information Gateway.
  2. Click on “State Resources” title. Under “State Resources” click on both the “State Statutes” and “State Guides and Manuals Search” tabs. Under both the “State Statutes” and “State Guides and Manuals Search” tabs, select your state under “Select a State(s) (required)” title.
  3. Using the information found under both the “State Statutes” and “State Guides and Manuals Search,” collect information to answer the following questions for your first post:
  • How does your state define child abuse and neglect?
  • What are the signs of child abuse and neglect?
  • Which professions (and in what period of time) are required to report suspected child abuse and neglect?
  • What is the procedure for reporting child abuse and neglect?
  • What is the penalty for not reporting child abuse and neglect?

3. Discussion: Bereavement Counseling

The student will post one thread of 400-500 words. The student must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations incurrent APA format, as well as 1 biblical principle. Any sources cited musthave been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include peerreviewed journal articles.

Thread: Looking at human development from a Biblical/Christian standpoint as something that occurs across the lifetime, then we cannot ignore the fact that human development is still occurring at end of life. Many times, those who are dying find comfort in their faith and spirituality. Christians, for example, know that believers will have eternal life after earthly death (John 3:16, KJV). The Association for Death Education and Counseling Code of Ethics (2010) seeks to address ethical issues associated with the fragile and complicated process of death and dying.

Utilizing your textbook readings from this Module: Week, discuss how faith and spirituality may be potentially therapeutic to those who are dying. Then, read through The Code of Ethics for the Association for Death Education and Counseling and highlight two specific responsibilities that a counselor has when engaging bereavement counseling. Detail these responsibilities and discuss why they are important.
