Based on your reading of Violence: The Enduring Problem (Alvarez and Bachman) and Predators, Pedophiles, Rapists & Other Sex Offenders: Who They Are How They Operate and How We Can Protect Ourselves and Our Children (Salter), consider the notions of offender typologies and specific theories that help explain the violence portrayed in an offender of choice.

For your paper, you must choose one specific offender (sexual predator and/or violent offender) and analyze how the explanations found in Alverez & Bachman and Salters text help you to understand the offender and their crime(s) and (possible) criminal conviction. You are free to discuss offender profiles and offender motives using various theories and explanations (found in Alvarez & Bachman and Salter) as your foundation.

As part of your analysis, I would like to see you:

Use the overall theme in both texts of offender categorizations, how offenders function, criminal justice system interaction (including the motivation and the rationalization/justification the offender employed to defend their criminal act).

Support your conclusions or arguments with specific examples, properly cited in the text.

When describing the offenders interaction with the Criminal Justice System (including the search, capture, and sentencing) explain why you do or DO NOT agree with their punishment.

Be detailed with what you think the system got wrong or right and, if needed, what you would suggest fixing.

If you want to include it, students can briefly cover victim protectionism in their paper.
