How has NIL affected college coaches? 

Our guest speaker Jeff was a former coach and addressed some exciting things about NIL. Prior to NIL being legalized, the NCAA rules regarding athletes being paid were extremely tight and had little to no wiggle room whatsoever. Now, it’s almost like anything goes with these colleges being able to pay the athletes.  it can be a very scary thing for coaches with the lawlessness in the NCAA because one coach could simply offer a recruit a ton of money and opportunities on the spot that other schools can’t.

How will NIL evolve in the short and long run?

The evolution of NIL in the short and long term is difficult to predict with certainty, as it will depend on various factors such as legal and regulatory changes, market forces, and societal attitudes towards college sports and athlete compensation. However, it is possible that in the short term, there will be a flurry of activity as college athletes seek to monetize their NIL rights, with some individuals and teams potentially benefitting more than others. In the long term, it is possible that NIL could become more normalized and integrated into the college sports landscape, with a more established framework and rules governing athlete compensation. It is possible that the current NIL model could prove unsustainable or lead to unintended consequences that prompt major changes or even a rollback of these policies. Ultimately, the direction that NIL takes will be shaped by a complex interplay of economic, legal, social, and cultural factors, and will likely continue to be a topic of debate and discussion in the coming years.
