Grossmont College Conflict Evaluation Essay

Grossmont College Conflict Evaluation Essay

Grossmont College Conflict Evaluation Essay

Description

Please identify five concepts from our course, provide a definition (textbook definition or in your own words), and provide a quick explanation of how this concept fits into your life.

Background: Why Am I Doing This?

  • Our major assignment for this semester, an essay due next week, will focus on a conversation you have had with another person in which there was a conflict. This essay worksheet will help you start to develop an outline and put some thoughts for that paper.

Brief description of the full essay due next week:

Please write a 3 to 4 page essay (750-1000 words) discussing a conversation you have had with another person in which there was a conflict. You should explain the conflict and connect it to concepts we’ve discussed in class and/or concepts found in your text. In your essay, please reference five different course concepts. Name the concept, explain how it works, and explain how it fits into the context of your conversation. Feel free to discuss any conversation you have had, so long as it is actually with another person. (Conflicts you’ve “had within yourself” will not receive credit.) Please also keep the focus on a particular incident (or two). Please do not describe several incidents taking place over a long period of time.

The assignment for this week is to create a basic plan for that essay. In order to do so, you will identify five concepts from our course, provide a definition (textbook definition or a detailed description in your own words), and provide a quick explanation of how this concept fits into your life. For your convenience, I have provided a template you might like to use. Please feel free to download this document, complete it (no handwritten work), and upload it to the assignment submission section.

FOR EXAMPLE – I like perception checking, so one of my points might be:

Perception checking: Perception-checking provides a way to review your assumptions and to share your interpretations. I use perception checking in my life everyday, as I am aware my perception is not always accurate. I usually reflect back what I think my conversation partner is saying so I know we are clear. I’ll usually just say something like, “So, what I’m hearing is… (and then just restate what they said).” This helps because they feel as though I am listening and we both have a sense that our communication is clear.

Please feel free to download this worksheet to get started. You don’t need to use this document but I thought it might be helpful to have structure to get you started.
