 “A Statement of work is a preliminary document that lays the foundation for a project to be built upon. It is valuable in that it allows for the sharing of project requirements, acceptance criteria, and payment terms with team members, and stakeholders who are bidding to work on the project(Landau, 2021). The Statement of work includes the teams and their responsibilities, the scope of the project, tasks and deliverables, submission schedules, costs, and resources needed. The Project charter is different from the statement of work in that its main purpose is to authorize a project manager to use defined resources to complete a project and assign a project sponsor (Sipes, 2019). The statement of work would help avoid conflicts during the project via detail and clarity whereas the charter clearly defines authority levels and roles and responsibilities which keeps the project flowing in a smooth manner. An example that proves the usefulness of these documents is when a team member desires to switch roles, the charter would provide them with the necessary information required to fit into their new role while still following the statement of work, which provides general guidelines regarding the project.
