Read the Audience, Purpose, and Genre questions below.
In your small group, discuss as much as needed until you agree on answers. If you
do not agree on an answer, keep discussing it till you agree. You might have to
review the previous GAP materials or ask your instructor for guidance.
After finishing the discussion, each person will write their own post. While the
essence of the answers can be the same, each student will still need to write the
answers by themselves and not copy from group members. You will need to post
your answers first before you can see their posts.

Questions about Genre
What is the genre of the text? In other words, what would you call this text (i.e. a
textbook chapter, an Instagram post, a peer comment to an assignment, a newspaper
article, a poem, etc.)?

1. What is the audience for each text? In other words, for whom, specifically, was this
text created? What evidence can you find in each text that leads you to that answer?
2. What does the audience already know or believe prior to watching or reading each
text?
Questions about Purpose
What is the purpose of each text? In other words, what are the authors trying to achieve
by producing these texts (i.e. to entertain, to inform, to persuade, to share knowledge, to
motivate, etc.)?
