Part 1 – Future Technology

In the Week 1 – Post Your Introduction post, you discussed past technology changes. What about technology in the future? Shontell (2014) states robots and tracking will be some of the greatest tech advances. Boudette (2016) discusses driverless cars that are promised by Ford Motor Company. In your discussion post, describe how technology will affect people and organizations in the future. Your post should be a minimum of 200 words.

Part 2 – Outdated Technology

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the articles The Next 20 Years Are Going to Make the Last 20 Look Like We Accomplished Nothing in Tech  (Links to an external site.)(Shontell, 2014) and Ford Promises Fleets of Driverless Cars Within Five Years (Boudette, 2016) and read the chapters listed below in the Limoncelli, Hogan, and Chalup (2017) text:

Chapter 3: Pets and Cattle

Chapter 4: Infrastructure as Code

In addition to your readings, you will need to do some research on your own in the university library.

For this assignment, you will take on the role of a fictitious system administrator, who was recently hired to join an IT team. Upon your arrival at the organization, you learn that this company was started 5 years ago and needs an IT infrastructure overhaul. While it started out as a single company, it has since expanded not only in its number of locations, but in its use of technology. In fact, a lot of changes in technology have affected how the company is currently performing its daily business routines and processes.

In this written assignment, you will describe how outdated technology affected the company’s growth. You will need to consider the technology that initially was used by the organization, the technology that you will install, and how the new technology will increase the organization’s overall performance. Let your imagination run wild! Pablo Picasso said, “Everything you can imagine is real.” Below you will find a list of current technology at the company.

One Netgear Hub with 12 ports

One PC with Windows XP installed.

8 GB of RAM

1 802.11 Wireless NIC

One hard connected printer

• In your paper,
• Describe how outdated technology affected the organization.
• Explain how the organizations use of technology can be updated.
• Describe how the company might upgrade their technologies and incorporate future technologies, including your specific suggestions.

Describe benefits and pitfalls to the upgrades and future technologies you have suggested.

Recommend the hardware and software upgrades needed based on the company’s three locations and their needs.
