Essay#4-

Thoroughly respond to the following prompt:

Compose a position argument on a controversial issue related to education. Before you take

a position, learn more about the issue and the debate surrounding it. Then frame the issue

so readers recognize that it merits their attention, consider and respond to views that differ

from yours, and develop a well-supported, clearly organized argument that will confirm,

challenge, or change your readers’ views.

Possible topics (from SMG):

• Should particular courses, community service, or an internship be a graduation

requirement in college?

• Should students attending public colleges be required to pay higher tuition fees if they

have been full-time students but have not graduated within four years?

• Should college be paid for by taxes the way K-12 is?

• Should general education requirements be continued (or discontinued) at your college?

• Should drinking alcohol be banned on campuses?

• Should online courses replace large face-to-face lecture courses?

• Should schools create and enforce guidelines to protect individuals from bullying and

discrimination?

Essay Requirements:

Essay must be at least 2,000 words (6-8 pages), not including the Works Cited page. Please

include the word count in your heading.

Works Cited page is required and must, like the rest of the essay, follow MLA format.

At least three credible sources are required. Make use of the library databases to locate

these sources.
