You are to choose one of the five approved films to watch and identify the type of abuse depicted in the film by using major points discussed in the related chapters of our text for example Chapters 6 (The Sexual Abuse of Children) and Chapter 7 (Incest: Familial Abuse).

In your paper answer the following:

1. Identify the type of  abuse depicted in the film (use the book to discuss someone would know which type it is) Describe how you know that it is this type of abuse from watching the film and what is necessary for it to be considered abuse as discussed in the text. 

2. identify the type of offender depicted in the film (what makes this person an offender, discuss the signs and red flags about this offender that should be monitored use book and other references such as peer reviewed journals)

3.Identify and discuss  the symptoms of abuse that the victim exhibits.

4.Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the adults around victim and offender, and the current reporting requirements for the type of abuse. (Pretend that all of the movies take place in the United States)

5.Research peer reviewed journals to discuss the impact of the type abuse you have identified as well as treatment/interventions recommended to mitigate or reduce the impact of this abuse.

Through this exercise, students will develop a better understanding of how to recognize the various forms of maltreatment.
