Description

Please respond to the following in a substantive post (3 paragraphs):

  • What are the stages of the system development life cycle? Which stage is the most critical stage and why do you think so?
  • There are new approaches to building systems, such as rapid application development, agile, DevOps, etc. Choose any one of the approaches and explain the value it contributes to the system development process. Feel free to use industry examples.
  • Be sure to respond to at least one of your classmates0osts.

The software development life cycle (SDLC) is a process that is widely used throughout the IT industry for the development of software solutions that are quality-centric. This process is unique because it provides a concrete framework on which almost kinds of software solutions can be developed. The main purpose of the software development life cycle is to keep the budget and deadline of the project in check whilst providing customer satisfaction (Sen et al., 2021). There are seven progressive stages of the software development life cycle. The process starts out with requirement gathering and analysis, continues while testing the requirements for feasibility, and then the stage of designing the software and prototyping is started. After these initial three stages, the actual development starts in the fourth stage. In this fourth stage, developers come together to code the solution according to the preset requirements and design. After the completion of this stage, the fifth stage is software testing. Once testing is done, the project is released and deployed in the sixth stage. Lastly, after the software is released, the seventh and last stage of maintenance is started which is carried out routinely and indefinitely.

In my opinion, the most critical stage of the software development life cycle is the requirement gathering and analysis stage. This stage is most critical to the project’s success because the budget and deadline is usually analyzed during this stage. As the popular saying goes, “the money makes the world go round,” developers and project managers must ensure that the budget they are asking for is feasible and according to the required feature set of the client. As such, analysis of the customer’s requirements and the denial of impossible to produce features is crucial for the project’s overall success.

Agile is defined as an iterative approach to software development project management that helps a software development team push out a project faster and with fewer problems (Abrahamsson et al., 2017). It enables team work because it formulates cohesion between multiple teams that handle multiple phases or feature development of a project. In the contemporary world, agile has attained immense popularity because it encourages self-organization and is highly adaptable to a variety of software development scenarios.
