Background on the group i selected :

According to Jacobs, Schimmel, Masson, and Harvill (2015), people who attend support groups usually have a common issue and experience coming together with others to share their feelings and thoughts. The type of group chosen for my final project will be a support group for people coping with losing a loved one due to COVID-19. My defense for creating such a group is the lack of therapeutic services and support groups addressing this subject. The purpose of this group is to have a space where members can come and safely talk about their experiences around the loss of a friend or family member to COVID-19. This support group would allow participants to share their experiences and struggles and reinforcing the idea that they are not alone in their experiences and emotions (Jacobs, Schimmel, Masson, & Harvill, 2015). Since this is a support group, the purpose and goal of this group are to provide a place where members can share their experiences and feelings about those experiences with one another (Jacobs et al., 2015). Group membership would include anyone between the ages of 18 and 99 dealing with the loss of a friend or loved one to COVID-19. The length of the group would be an hour and meet three times a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 pm to 8 pm. There is no definite set number of sessions as the group would continue as long as it had attendance due to its nature. The place in which this group would take place could be one of the many meeting rooms many cities have and will allow groups like this to meet in. The area would have to provide some level of privacy for the group to control for outside observers.
