Bowie State University Cyber Monday and Black Friday Discussion

We can’t ignore the enormity of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. So, I’d like for you to either share an article about the sales orrrrr tell the class about your own experience with the sales. For instance, did you brave the Black Friday Sales; if so, where did you go, how were the crowds, and how were the sales.

1- I did not participate in Black Friday but I did participate in Cyber Monday. A lot of the sales going on were annoying because I wasn’t shopping for myself but my family’s Christmas gifts. I’m currently restraining myself from spending money on things, I do not need because I took my emotions out with retail therapy which is not a good habit. On the other hand, some of the stuff I had to buy for my family was sold out due to all the sales so I struggled to find the product on other sites. I spent almost a good $400 on gifts for others and a lot of the stuff I purchased was not on sale which is a bummer. I purchased a new wig for myself but I waited until Cyber Monday but there was a huger discount on Friday in which I wish I took advantage but I will be sure to remember that next year. On the other hand, my family and I agreed that participating in Black Friday shopping was very dangerous. We know a couple of people that have died from the coronavirus disease so it hits close to home. I personally have never gone Black Friday shopping but that is something can honestly wait. Cyber Monday is way safer and you can do it in the comfort of your own home which is relaxing...

2- The article starts by discussing how the people who did shop this Black Friday spent less than the previous year and that has taken a toll on retailers. Additionally, Bhattarai mentions that analysts blame the current economic climate, high unemployment rate, and rising virus cases for the decline in shopping this year. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with people saving their cash. Especially when the report is saying only 186 million people shopped this year instead of 190, and shoppers spent only an average of $312 as opposed to $369 in 2019. Moreover, I’m sure it’s hitting a lot of retailers hard but are we only at the beginning of this decline in consumer spending?
