If you find it difficult to know how to start your reflective essay, below are some prompts
you might consider answering and using to structure your essay around:
rompt 1: Despite pressure from others, when and how did you show concern for others
in your community (however you define community) during the pandemic? How did
your actions make you feel? How do you think the other person(s) felt from being shown
care? How do you believe concern for others contributes to health promotion, collective
well-being, and health equity?
rompt 2: Human connection is a vital force of health and well-being. In particular,
expressions of kindness toward strangers can shape how they feel about themselves and
their perceptions of our world. When during the pandemic did you connect with a
stranger? What circumstances drove you to connect with them, and why did you see
connecting with them as an essential form of collective care? What impact do you think
your kindness had on this stranger and their beliefs about the world? How do you believe
extending kindness to others contributes to health promotion, collective well-being, and
health equity?
rompt 3: Our workplaces, just like other institutions, consist of people at different
levels and intersections of privilege and disadvantage. How did you engage in collective
care in your work environment to support co-workers with fewer privileges than you or
others? What were the circumstances in your workplace that you believed facilitated or
created barriers that prompted you to extend this kind of care? What do you think was
valuable about this action for the person and overall workplace environment? How do
you believe your actions of collective care contribute to health promotion, collective
well-being, and health equity?
