According to the US Department of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Statistics released a media announcement (see attached) regarding the decrease in the prison population, but an increase in the jail population.

For this discussion forum, read the press release and address the following questions:

1) Based on your knowledge of corrections in America, crime trends, and crime prevention; what do you believe to be the cause of the difference between the two populations?

2) Using your supported ideas for the increase of the jail population versus the decrease of the prison population, what strategies would you suggest to reduce the jail population? What strategies would you suggest to address criminal behavior where jail time is the punishment?
