Journal Summary
Description
You need to thoroughly summarize and critique the paper. What are the issues
being addressed? What is the methodology used? What are the strengths and
weaknesses? What are the KEY results? Where would be a next avenue of research?
Make sure you answer these questions in detail.
Also: do not just copy what was written in the paper. Put your description in
your own words. You certainly do not need to mention every detail but focus on the
major points, spending time on the crucial elements of the paper while spending less time
(perhaps far less) on items of lesser importance. How to identify the major points 4hat
is what you will be learning to do!
Be sure to identify strengths and weaknesses. Think of this as a critical analysis
and so more than a summary.
I don want to set a page limit but these summaries should certainly be more than
a couple of pages. You need to demonstrate that you thoroughly understand the key
aspects of the paper but also do not åt lost in the details. t is OK to discuss the paper
with other students or to get feedback from one another. That is part of the academic
process.
These papers should contain some formal empirical or theoretical work but you
do not need to find overly complex papers
