One type of knowledge that I read about this week is procedural knowledge. This stage of knowledge reflects the recognition that multiple sources of knowledge exist and that procedures are necessary for evaluating the relative merit of these sources. People who use this type of knowledge focus on methods and techniques for evaluating the accuracty of external truth and the relative worth of authority.
I use this type of knowledge often, but especially when I am doing research for an essay or a speech. Especially on broader topics, I know that there are all types of sources of knowledge all over the internet. I know that all of them do not carry the same weight, some sources are biased, and some sources simply offer personal opinion but no facts. I know certain clues to watch for when determing if a source is credible (for example, sources with peer-reviews are often credible, while sources with wording such as “I believe” are more likely to be opinion and not fact). These are some of my tools I use to evaluate the relative merit of sources I want to use for my paper, and these tools and methods show that I use procedural knowledge for this task.
