MA Ethnic 107
Description
part one
Closing Lecture Remarks
Each one of us did not choose our educational system, but we do have a choice in the purpose for our learning. While learning is never a neutral act, each one of us can direct learning toward being something liberating rather than oppressive.
The United States, California and the San Diego area have a great variety of peoples of different ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds. All of these groups make up the American mosaic. The Ethnic Studies Department examines the heritage, contributions and issues of these communities. It is the department’s belief that, through an examination of the heritage of others, one can appreciate one’s own heritage.
The fact we all have different interests and challenges shouldn’t be something to divide us and have us all work together with the purpose of defeating oppressive system. Ethnic Studies provides each one of us the opportunity to be represented, to be heard, to be seen, and perhaps understood by others; so that we can build a better future system for everyone.
