For this course, you will act as a safety manager for a chemical manufacturing plant located in a residential area and be responsible for developing an Emergency Contingency Response Plan (ECRP) to mitigate and manage potential hazards and risks. You will apply the steps in the planning process, conduct an emergency drill, evaluate the plan’s effectiveness, and develop recovery and resilience strategies.

The plant produces chemicals used in producing consumer goods. The chemicals manufactured include the following: phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde, methylisothiazolinone, triclosan, PABA (para-aminobenzone), oxybenzone, and avobenzone.

Assignment Details:

Week 1-2: Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification

You will conduct a risk assessment and identify potential hazards and risks for your company. You will then evaluate the likelihood and impact of identified risks and create a report to be submitted to your supervisor.

Week 3-4: Emergency Response Planning

You will develop an Emergency Contingency Response Plan (ECRP) for your company based on the identified risks and hazards. You will also apply the steps in the planning process and submit the ECRP to your supervisor for feedback.

Week 5: Emergency Drills and Exercises

• You will conduct an emergency drill based on the Emergency Response Plan you developed in weeks 3-4. After the drill, you will evaluate its effectiveness and make any necessary revisions to the ECRP.

Week 6: Mitigation and Preparedness Strategies

You will identify and evaluate mitigation and preparedness strategies for emergencies and disasters based on the drill and evaluation results. You will then develop a strategic guide for management to prepare for and recover from any emergency or disaster.

Week 7: Recovery and Resilience Strategies

• You will develop a post-emergency recovery plan that includes recovery and resilience strategies. You will also evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies and make any necessary revisions to the ECRP.
