It is best to decide who you want to write your paper about later in the course after you have been introduced (through the course) to many different composers and lyricists. The paper should cover their early life biography and then cover their major contributions to the field of musical theatre. You do not need to follow strict formats with things like footnotes etc. Just make sure you list your sources at the end of your paper. If you like to follow a rigid format then I would suggest MLA but it is not required.
